Who needs Quakers?

My imagination can get carried away when it is asked to think of possibilities or the future. Well, it does depend on whether I am interested in the subject. As you know if it is spiritual I am in.

So our local area quaker community is asking what would excite and bring us joy in a Quaker future. My imagination gets carried away and brings me to two events looking at the subject. It is as I talk in between events with my local St Albans community that I begin to get a sense of an answer. I reached the view we can only really work with what we have now and what we seek we must do now.

After a discussion of the subject at St Albans, I challenged myself to do something that was fairly straightforward which was to post on my Facebook page the question,

“Have you ever wondered what happens at a Quaker meeting?” If so contact me for a zoom link.

About five people showed an interest.

I ask myself why do I think it is important to let people know that Quakers exist?

First, because I believe it is important that people have places, communities to go to develop spiritually.

Secondly, that is because I believe spirituality at its simplest is ‘having a reason to live’. I am aware that many struggle to find meaning and that is one reason we need places to assist us all in finding meaning.

Thirdly it is rarely a one-off exercise ‘I have found meaning I am sorted’ so some of us need communities that support us when we lose meaning and we support others when they lose theirs.

Quakerism (at least where I live) allows you to develop your own spirituality

Developing spiritually is what excites and brings me joy as it adds so much to my life ( it is inextricably linked to my life).

I believe others could benefit from a community like Quakers in enhancing their life. Of course, this is a matter for individuals but for those who seek more Quakers offer a community in which they will be supported in seeking and likewise support others in their search.
