What form does God take?

The other day as I was talking to a friend (it was FB video chat) I mentioned how strongly I relate to the concept of God as father and in my relationship with the divine is he is my father. The friend replied, “I am relieved as a few years ago you said you didn't believe in God.”

I was then surprised but knowing myself I may well have said something that conveyed that idea. He set me reflecting.

A few days later I sent him a message,

Hi Mark, did I really say I didnt believe in God at one time? In my own head, I may have meant that God is everything and maybe I questioned whether God could be limited to a form. I don’t think God is limited to a form but I think God puts himself into a form such as when the dove descended on Christ at his baptism or indeed the form of Jesus in order that I can relate to him.

Today as I sat in silence the same thoughts were present. I guess as it is the Christmas season I found myself again in wonder that God unlimited as God is, chose the form of a human to connect with us.

What would I prefer to swim in the ocean that is God or sit in a boat and talk with God? Well, swimming would be good for a time but I would much prefer after I have had my swim to sit in a boat on the ocean and talk with God as a friend. A flask of coffee would be good too and some biscuits even better. After we talked we could watch the sunset.

Sometimes it is as that for me. I swim in the ocean that is God not just on the surface but on occasions as deep as I can go yet most times it as sitting in a boat with a friend drinking tea and enjoying life.
