Visiting a Synagogue and Shabbat meal
It was Friday night and we were invited to join the community of Shir Hadash for prayers at the beginning of the Jewish Sabbath.
Shir Hadash - Bringing Jews closer to Judaism, to one another and to Israel
Inspiring Jewish identity through study and action that is joyous, passionate about ethics and inspired with hesed…
It was a welcome surprise to have waffles and ice cream served before prayers.
There was much singing in Hebrew as I rose and sat. The men were on one side of the room and the women on the other with a screen between.
There are no photos as being with an Orthodox community meant no use of phones and technology.
Afterwards, Peta invited us to her home for a Shabbat meal. I had heard of the meal but I had never participated, no better place to have my first one!
There was much food, prayers over the food, washing of hands, eating and singing at the end.
We had spent the week together at the Summer School yet this Shabbat meal together in Peta & Aaron's home created more intimacy and gratefulness between us.
