Etty Hillesum: A Life Transformed by Patrick Woodhouse
Once a month, one of us circulates a page or two of writing that we have found spiritually nourishing. This last month, it was an extract from the book ‘Etty Hillesum A Life Transformed’ by Patrick Woodhouse.
She calls her inner world ‘Soul-landscape’. As one prone to depression, her soul landscapes offered her much.
“I slip through the grey Ocean of Eternity like a narrow boat.”
Once again I have been …. redeemed by an image
……a few days ago the image of …. sailing like a ship through my year of days…. saved me from being torn apart and cast to the winds.
I find that … all this analysing makes me ….. more miserable still, while a sudden poetic image…. liberates me.
I often, if not daily, have that experience of something speaking to me that powers me on in the day.
