The power of story, the Easter story

As I travelled from Luton (England) to Swansea ( Wales) on Thursday night I was aware as I am on Maundy Thursday that this is the night that all things end. Dramatic you may think and dramatic it is. I am entering into the drama of the night Jesus is betrayed which leads to his arrest and within 24 hours his death.

The drama of the story pulls me in and I sense an ending. I feel relief about today as whatever happens it ends today. It would be a great way to live rather than carry today’s concerns into tomorrow. It helps that it is a Bank Holiday weekend and I am free next week.

I see this period as a window that opens in the year that allows me to feel more deeply. Entering into the collective consciousness that is created as people focus on the death of Jesus encourages us to grieve and let go of all that has remained unexpressed within us. Is there a death occurring? It seems to enter into this journey means that as Christ is led to his death so are we. As we surrender to death we do so knowing that unless a seed dies it does not produce fruit.

We get a day or two before Easter Sunday during which we may face all our fears. As we enter into this drama it pulls us through death and if we stick with it we will experience something new by Sunday.
