“The only thing required of you is this moment.”

I did return today and I felt ok. It is the ‘climbing the mountain’ effect when you get halfway and know you have come as far as you need to go again you say to yourself, “Well if I have made it this far I can make it this far again.” It can happen halfway through a day or halfway through a week. Never thought about it for a month or a year.

More frequently I hear myself give the advice I live by,

“The only thing required of you is this moment.”

I give it because I live it.

There is so much to get in the way of the moment, what has to be done, particularly what others say has to be done. I think the past has become the past it serves no purpose (I don’t think) yesterday glory fades by midnight. Enjoy it in the moment for from that point it fades as there is another moment beginning to blaze.

Peter comes to mind as he got out of the boat and walked on the water. For as long he was in the moment he was centred. His wobble was a distraction from the present.

I looked at my phone this morning. There was a text. It was a ‘Not well’ text. I don’t do ‘not well’ texts very well. They often become disruptors to the day. I am not a good nurse even if it is my 20-year-old. It doesn’t come easy to serve the needs of others. I need my silence. I have closed the door to the world and I have closed the door to my soul. I don’t want to be disturbed in the service of others. I have done it all day, I need a rest. I feel the resistance and somehow I reach into myself and find what I need for the moment, pasta, saucepan, water, cheese grater and give what is being requested.

Best day,

g
