She has her vodka, I have my broken biscuits
Early thirties, dual heritage and a little big. I had sat down to type and noticed her as she was in my gaze.
A while later I looked up and I noticed no one was at the place. I had forgotten who was sitting there though whoever it was had left their stuff, a large bottle of fizzy orange, a drinking bottle or two, a phone charger and some hand wipes. My eyes then noticed the bottle of Smirnoff standing inside a shopping bag underneath the desk.
I remember the woman, I’m thinking, “Is she drinking in the library?”
She returns and pretending to be typing I watch her. She pulls another bottle of fizzy orange from a bag, I assume she left to buy another bottle. She pours the orange into one of the water bottles. After a few moments she takes another container and surreptitiously she pours a portion from the vodka bottle into it. She opens a Martina Cole novel and at interval drinks.
I look at my broken digestives biscuits on the desk that I dipping into my take away tea and wonder am I any different to her? We are both reading.
