The need to hear the whispers that surround us
Over the years I have had favourite places of retreat. My first day retreat was at Mulberry House in Essex. A quick search tells me it is no longer a place of spiritual retreat but a wedding venue.
Country Wedding Venue | Mulberry House Essex
Mulberry House is one of the finest wedding and events venues, situated in the heart of the Essex countryside and set…
I then discovered Stanton House in Oxfordshire.
After a long COVID winter, to recover and restore health and perspective, book into Stanton House, where rest…
I visited here for around fifteen years.
The place that is serving my current need to retreat is The Krishnamurti Centre.
The Krishnamurti Centre * Study the Teachings of J. Krishnamurti
Situated in the beautiful countryside of England's South Downs National Park, the Krishnamurti Centre in Hampshire…
One of the greatest features of the K centre is the huge lounge area. It is created to facilitate at least four different sets of people talking. You get an idea of the lounge from the above photo but look at the website and you will get a better impression.
The dining room is also pretty spacious. This design serves our ability to join others in conversation and at mealtimes eat with others.
This leads to conversations with the most active 93-year old I have met, a student from Indian, a Slovenian, an Iranian and many others. Of course, we have all an interest in Krishnamurti and the teachings he espoused. For many Krishnamurti is a focal point in non-duality without excluding what others have written on the subject.
The only requirement is to have an interest in the teachings, there are no disciples.
It is rare to find a place where you can be alone yet be with others.
The rooms are all single occupancy to encourage study and plain in decor to avoid distractions.
The drive to the place begins the experience and the drive home prepares you to re-enter the world we normally occupy.
No TV, nor radio attunes you to the nature that surrounds you. Allowing you to hear the whispers that surround us.
