One day you will be a work of art, for now, you are in progress

Saturday morning no doubt for many of us is the time to clean our dwellings. This morning I walked into Cee’s room to see what may need extracting when I noticed she was reading, ‘The Rules of Life’.

I decided I would read as far as she had as if walking in her footsteps. It was a moment when as I read I realised my daughter has reached the point where we all wonder how we should be. It was as if the child has reached the age of independence, she will be 18 soon.

I found what was written pretty helpful. I have read similar stuff over the years, this time I was reading it after my daughter. I liked the line that read something like, “Youth is the time to make mistakes.” Suddenly I felt less guilty for the mistakes of my youth. Another line seemed to reinforce my recent revelation that what happened yesterday is gone, forget about it and get on with today.

I guess it was another example that we are trying to work out how to get the best out of life. To get the best out of life we have to try and behave in a way that maximises life. It begins to sound like a sport or a skill that we can get better at, even master.

I was reading a separate article that spoke of our life unfolding and that although we may get glimpses the complete ‘art of our lives’ is revealed in our death. We push ourselves and others to change yet it is an emerging work like the chestnut it should not be forced out of its jacket before its time.

This gives hope for those of us who feel we have still a way to go. The hope is that as the Universe ensures we have everything we need to live it will ensure we will be revealed in our full glory just before we leave the planet for an art gallery in the sky.
