Living is worship, live free
In Mathew chapter 15 we read that the Pharisees have come from Jerusalem to challenge Jesus. I imagine the Pharisees like the paparazzi surrounding Jesus and asking him questions as he tries to make his way to wherever he is going. Their opening challenge is,
“ Why don’t your disciples honour the tradition of the elders by washing their hands before meals”
Jesus retorts, “ Why do you create a tradition whereby you justify giving the money due your parents to God when God said “Honour your father and mother”.”
He then quotes from the prophet Isaiah,
“These people honour me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me. They worship me in vain; their teachings are merely human rules.”
New International Version (NIV)
I take from this that our lives are worship, how we live. Indeed Romans chapter 12 verse 1 confirms this,
“Therefore, I urge you, brothers and sisters, in view of God’s mercy, to offer your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and pleasing to God — this is your true and proper worship.”
NIV
Life is to be free, worship is to be free. Live rather than get caught in human-made rules.
