Likes the placards I felt discarded
We have been contemplating Peter’s denial of Jesus as recorded in the Book of Luke. Jesus has been arrested and is on the eve of his execution. Peter his loyal student had followed at a distant. He was recognised as his student yet Peter denied it not once but three times.
When have we been disowned? The passage got me thinking about times when I disowned or was disowned. There were some serious reflections but one light hearted one.
I was 15 and at school. A fellow pupil got suspended for her hair cut. I was outraged, “ How could you get suspended because of a haricut?” I set about organising a school strike well it was more a lunchtime protest. We made our placards and then with them we walked outside of school asking for the pupil to be reinstated. There were about 15 of us mainly female students with about 200 others watching from the safe distance of the school entrance.
It wasn’t long before I could see the Head flying out from his office towards us. In my memory he was wearing his gown which added to the effect. As soon as the others saw him coming they dropped their placards and bolted. I was left to pick up the discarded placards and face the Head. He had noted those who had ran off and assembled them with me outside his office. He told us what he thought but gave us no particular punishment. For me it came back as amusing incident when I like the placards felt discarded.
Best day,
