Dear Lucy,

You were probably the quietest out of the three of us. Certainly when growing up.

I keep seeing a Gymnastic poster that was on a wall or door in your room. The words that stood out were ‘ The Peoples Republic of China’. Perhaps that was the first seed that was sown that led to me visiting China in 1999. That is another story.

Curiously I also remember being captivated by the cover of a children’s book that belonged to you. It animated animals in human roles. I suppose what it tells me is I was influenced by what I saw around the house.

I didn’t only notice items I observed when you were able to do things ahead of me like join the playscheme at 7 years old or go to the Coffeebean at 13.

I recall a first date of yours when I agreed for a chocolate egg I would vacate the living room.

We shared a political interest in our teens although you were more restrained in demonstrating it. We also shared faith although you stayed with your tribe whereas I think at last count I moved through 13.

We came to England in the same year although you were a month ahead of me. This time I stayed in the same county I arrived but you must have moved 10 times.

I recall your visit when T’ was born and having her for sleepovers when you lived in London, your efforts were appreciated.
