Let’s not lose the commute as we ‘Spatially distance’
It is all those little interactions during the commute that contribute to a sense of belonging and build a community of sorts.
All the seats on the bus were full excepting those marked, “Social Distancing — Do not sit here”.
The trains were delayed. Even when train usage is significantly reduced we still have train delays. Gave me a chance to chat with Aki who I hadn’t seen at the station since lockdown. It is like we have all been on holiday for the last 3 months and now we are sharing are Lockdown stories.
I noticed on the ‘free to use photos’ sites there are not many available for social distancing so when I got into Luton I decided to take a few (as you will notice) . I did try to upload to them to the free site but it seems the pixels are too small!
Has your town instituted a code for pedestrians? In Luton we have marshalls.
It was only a matter of time before someone made some money out of this. Who would pay £8 just to look more fashionable?
Keep to the left!
The Friday feeling is better when you leave a place after spending hours there engaged in tasks asked of you by others. I was looking forward to switching everything off and walking out that door, through the town to the station, wait for the train, jump on it, watch the Beds & Herts fields fly by, get off see another guard I hadn’t seen a while, have a chat, bid him good evening, exit the ticket barriers, wait for the bus in an almost deserted station, be greeted by a friendly driver and feel like a kid on minature railway as only I and the driver complete the circuit until ‘ that’s my stop’ , I bid him too a good evening and walk the short distance home, put the key in the door and enter my secret place. It was so hot that almost immediately I undressed and had a cold shower.
Now would I have done all this if I had performed all said tasks at home? No. So while some may bemoan the commute there is something in it, a whole community of people. If we give it up a comunity gets lost.
Best day,
g
PS I did notice that I am falling asleep earlier on the days of the commute.
