Let the plan unfold

Waiting to see what will happen

People often ask me, “Any plans?”. Often I say “I will tell you when I see you next.”

I began making enquiries to retreat centres on Sunday. The Krishnamurti Centre has become my second home however in the last year or so I have felt a prompt to try at least one new place a year. I pulled from the shelf the Retreat Handbook (the 2021 edition)

I felt inclined to stay more local so the first four advertised were all within 70 miles. I sent off my emails and made a call to leave a message. Not wishing to overbook myself I staggered my enquiries. By yesterday 3 out of 4 were unable to accommodate as they were fully booked. The one I was waiting for was one of the first if not the second I enquired after. I decided to phone and I am glad I did as they could accommodate me.

I am learning to wait and let things unfold. It is not great for another but for me, there is an edge and an excitement not knowing what will unfold. It is fuel for my imagination, the drive, what will the place be like, and who may I encounter.

Since a child I have always had the curiosity to go beyond the ‘front door’. Then it was to the river, the fields and my grandparents. As I got older it would be on my bike with other kids equally keen to explore. Then it was taking a bus to a nearby town and not wanting to wait for the next bus and deciding to walk the 12 miles home. I had to persuade the other lad with me that we could do it.

Then there were the young teen dreams of escaping to London or some other far-off place. London turned out to the Douglas, the Isle of Man at 16 when I promptly accepted an invitation one night to return with another to the island. I stayed for 6 or 7 weeks.

Since then the impulse to be spontaneous has remained and here it is today.
