Is silence my new secret lover?

Is it the effect of the lockdown? Is it that I am finding myself sometimes twice a day on silent zoom meetings? Silent zoom meetings? What is that? Quakers. Quaker worship is in silence only broken should someone feel they will break if they don’t share what they believe needs to be shared.

So what is the effect of the lockdown? I feel I have more need to be in stillness and quiet. I hardly ever feel inclined to turn on the TV. Even wordy radio programmes at times are too much. When I do switch the radio on it is BBC Radio 3 Night Tracks.

I can’t remember what the book is for the book group? And it happens in 3 weeks. You would think that with lockdown no better time for reading. I thought so too yet as with TV and a lesser extent radio, reading is not what it was either. So what are you doing? As I say I seem to find myself with silence. It sounds like a lover? Maybe it is.

One of my favourite quotes is, “Silence is to the soul what sleep is to the body” maybe my soul is in need of a lot of rest. There was enough noise in the first 16 years to fill a lifetime.

Best day,

g
