“I want to play Fish and Shark.”
It is not without reason that we have sayings such as, “It doesn’t rain that it pours” and “Things come in threes”. There are times in our lives when change comes and it comes fast like boom, boom, boom. So Cee passes her driving test and then early this morning she flew off to Greece with a friend.
I can still see myself in May walking along the Thames path to Southbank when I received a call from her. “Is it ok if I book a holiday with Sam to Greece?” We had talked about it but now she had planned and a decision was required. I made a call to her mum and somehow we agreed that we would say yes. The holiday got booked and the reality came this morning.
I sent two text messages and made one phone call before she got to the airport though no responses. During the day I hoped for a text. At lunch time I sent an email and a Facebook message still hoping.
In the afternoon I kept checking like an excited child, nothing. I decided to phone, went straight to voicemail.
Then as I left to return home I saw a text, “Arrived safely batt died”
We are in an age when we will remember things by where we were when we received the call or the text message that stood out from all the others. I was relieved by this text yet in the same moment all her growing up scenes of her with me in pools came to mind, I replied, “I want to play fish and shark.”
