I feel like a Country boy
On Monday we will have completed 6 weeks of living in lockdown. So has a new way of living formed?
Around 3 weeks ago I was informed that one of the many cafes I use had reopened for takeaway. For the last 3 Saturdays, I walked in from my village to St Albans and called with them for a cappuccino.
Those last three Saturdays have been the only time I left my village ( now that I think of it that is not totally true but almost). It is a 3-mile walk there and the same back home. As I have walked it I have felt connected to the stories of the past when I would hear as a boy how in my parents’ day people would walk a few miles into town on a Saturday from the country.
What six weeks ago would have little significance has now become a highlight of my week. The slowing down has brought with it a new appreciation of things, people, places as we actually notice rather than our usual rushing on.
I can see myself walking into town like past generations and with it an appreciation they knew which only now I am experiencing.
Best day,
