Something of a religious experience

Chai is a massive fan of Richard Ashcroft so much so that she travelled from Wales to Coventry. She invited me to drive up from Hertfordshire and meet her there. Ever the planner she had booked an apartment in Earlsdon a suburb of Coventry and near the venue Ashcroft was to play as part of the Godiva Festival.

We never did meet the owner as it was arranged by text “Go to the wall at the side of the building and locate the keylock safe for room 6.”

The nearby ‘Spoons served us well by helping us get into the festival mood. On our way, we stopped off at the bench in the photo above to finish off the wine. This seemed to add cheer as the festivalgoers passed us they threw smiles and compliments. The photo was taken by one of them.

The rain and the energy of the night made us fit for little on Saturday. We did manage to walk into Coventry in the afternoon and visit the famed Coventry Cathedral.

We returned to ‘The Field’ in the evening and waved with Sam Ryder and everyone else. Palomo Faith followed by which time we were ready for a Lemsip and an early night.

Not being the festival goer I nonetheless observed a similarity amongst the gathered that I observed at religious festivals, the sing-along, the adulation of the idol and the energy of the crowd.
