Coronavirus Challenge Day 13
Saturday 28th March 2020 — UK Lockdown Day 5 — yesterday story today
You would have guessed right if you thought this daily story and YouTube speil is part of my focus of living in this current time. It is a challenge, life is a challenge, this has made it more challenging. I am aware that the challenges are greater or lesser for others but just as life in us is for each of us to live only we can speak of what we experience. In truth that is all I know and writing and talking about it helps me work it out. If that also helps you that’s a bonus.
A friend sent me a link to government guidelines on COVID 19 particularly in relation to High Consequence Infectious Diseases (HCID) ( see link below)
What I find very confusing is that it states, as below, that it is no longer considered to be a HCID.
If further reads, “they have determined that several features have now changed; in particular, more information is available about mortality rates (low overall),”
I am no epidemiologist but that seems to run contrary to everything being said and happening ( mortality rates). If anyone can further explain I would be grateful.
Status of COVID-19
As of 19 March 2020, COVID-19 is no longer considered to be a high consequence infectious diseases (HCID) in the UK.
The 4 nations public health HCID group made an interim recommendation in January 2020 to classify COVID-19 as an HCID. This was based on consideration of the UK HCID criteria about the virus and the disease with information available during the early stages of the outbreak. Now that more is known about COVID-19, the public health bodies in the UK have reviewed the most up to date information about COVID-19 against the UK HCID criteria. They have determined that several features have now changed; in particular, more information is available about mortality rates (low overall), and there is now greater clinical awareness and a specific and sensitive laboratory test, the availability of which continues to increase.
The Advisory Committee on Dangerous Pathogens (ACDP) is also of the opinion that COVID-19 should no longer be classified as an HCID.
The need to have a national, coordinated response remains, but this is being met by the government’s COVID-19 response.
Cases of COVID-19 are no longer managed by HCID treatment centres only. All healthcare workers managing possible and confirmed cases should follow the updated national infection and prevention (IPC) guidance for COVID-19, which supersedes all previous IPC guidance for COVID-19. This guidance includes instructions about different personal protective equipment (PPE) ensembles that are appropriate for different clinical scenarios.
I think we all know that our world is probably going to be divided by Before Coronavirus (BC) and After Coronavirus (AC). It is changing us and how we live. I often have heard of the Post War generation now we will be hearing of the Post Corona generation.
I find I am more likely to be on YouTube than TV and clearly I am part of a trend. So much so that all the celebrities have their own channels. I do like Michael Buble’s music but I also like the person he conveys. Watching this video with his wife just confirms my perception that he is a really warm person. I guess it makes sense that a person conveys themselves by their music.
YouTube is getting to know me so much so that it recommends what I would like. It is not always right but it does throw up some good recommendations. I particularly like this Virtual Choir which made this video BC. It chimes in with my daily visit to the local river.
I try to spend 20 minutes at the start of the day and at the end of the day in silence. I often use the word ‘Father’ to focus. I have been doing this for a while so I was surprised when I began to see that I have categorised people in my life into, Fathers, Brothers and Sons and Mothers, Sisters, Daughters. I often use the symbol of the Penguin after ‘g’. This conveys this notion of brotherhood, family hood. For that moment men came to mind who have been as fathers to me, I was grateful. I could also see a common link in them all which kind of links to Michael Buble, they all convey what I believe to be the best attributes of fatherhood, warmth, positivity, looking out for you, believing in you and letting you know they have a special place in their hearts. Indeed each one showed me an attribute of God as Father. After the time my mind continued with those I would consider Mothers and each other category.
If you have the time I recommend that you try the exercise and in doing it you will find who and what you value most in each.
Best,
g
