So I am on the train tonight returning home when this guy sits down and asks, “Did you hear about the farmer who got arrested?” “No”, said I, to which he replied, “For planting heaven.” No, I didn’t get it either.

He then passes me one of those religious tracts which I always take. “Gordon, Jesus loves you” it reads. I am thinking this is a coincidence, I turn and look at the guy who eagerly turns his head towards me smiling broadly.

I continue to read, “ You remember that dream when you were a young boy?” Inwardly I am recalling a reoccurring dream in which I would fly with Jesus. It was as if I was gliding and he would point out different sites on the land.

I continue reading, “ Well today that dream can be a reality. In five minutes get up from your seat and press the open button at the doors.”

I am thinking, “Is this some crank what really is going on?” The guy beside me continues to smile. I look down and read on, “ The guy beside you will act as a parachute so as you jump he will be right behind you. The guy is actually Jesus so need to worry.”

I look right and he nods his head. I look as if to say, “ Really?”

With 3 minutes to go my mind is now contemplating whether I will actually press that button. “This is crazy, how did this happen? Could this be real?” My heart is pumping there is an excitement leaping within me. I stand up and he, Jesus, stands up too. I move towards the doors. I tell myself I don’t actually have to press the button but I can give myself the opportunity to decide. There are 59 seconds to go.

My life is going to change if I press that button. I stand on a threshold between routine living and something I can’t even comprehend.

5 seconds to go and Jesus quietly says, “ I am right behind you.” I think, “Why can’t I be right behind you?” As if to read my mind he says , “Because that is faith and these things don’t work in the normal order.”

My hand stretches forth, I hit that button and nothing happens. “Press it again” I press again beginning to lose confidence and then they open. I am not aware of anyone else now in the carriage just me and this guy Jesus, the force of air is pushing me back.

I focus and run just like I did when I jumped off the top board of that swimming pool so many years ago. The air catches me and pulls me upward I see Jesus behind me. I am utterly amazed as my body seems to have an ability to know how to fly just like when I first learned to cycle by myself.

I could be on a plane as I am having the same view I often have when I fly out of Luton. Jesus comes alongside and says, “So Gordon now it’s your turn to show me the sights.” “Give me a minute,” says I, “for the moment I am enjoying the view.”
