Christmas afternoon 2020
I am sitting in the meeting house. There are four of us and another 8 or 9 on zoom.
I am doing what I do in Quaker meetings I am allowing thoughts to come and go. Holding them briefly as if a shell I have picked from the beach. It is a shorter meeting as it is Christmas day. Quakers don’t regard Christmas day as any more special yet here we find ourselves.
I am thinking, “What has brought us here?” We clearly get something from being here. Is it that we want to see certain people? That may be part of it but my own sense is that somehow we create a space where the divine feels closer. Jesus did say, “Where two or three meet there I am in the midst of you.” So where is he when I am alone? I believe he is present but perhaps I am not so aware as I become when another or more is present.
There is something about connecting to others that aids us in connecting to God, that is why I am here.
