Can you smell a place?

Say like how you can smell burning toast. Wherever toast burns you know the smell and your brain says, “That is toast burning.” Can the same apply to the smell of Summer? What I mean is the last couple of days I have smelled France. What do you mean?

The weather here has been good for the last few days in its 30s. On Friday I had a distinctly continental feel. It was warm but not searingly so as I often experience it here. There was a wind that kept me cool. I had the window open and I could hear the sounds in the street. It sounded like France but it wasn’t. It seemed that the weather was French and with it, everything was becoming French. I began to think I was on holiday in France. I knew I was here but the feelings inside were the same that I get when on holiday.

Best day,
