All lives matter when Black Lives Matter
Yesterday across the UK many thousands of people got up and joined the chorus that proclaimed ‘Black Lives Matter’.
In St Albans, they knelt in Verulamium Park while in Luton they gathered outside the town hall.
The social segregation that exists due to inequality meant that the crowd in St Albans was majority white while in Luton majority black. The hope is that white lives are beginning to understand the pain of racism that Black lives have lived with for centuries and unite to dismantle it.
Racism like Nazism was and is an ideology that was and is used to create a power base so that one group could and does dominate over another group of people. It thrives on a belief of superiority which is then used to justify the dehumanisation of whoever the other is deemed to be whether that is the enslavement and or the mass execution of people.
I hope that we have begun to puncture the illusion of race and in so doing we realise that we are one people when one hurts we all hurt.
