A floral Christmas tree at St Pancras

It is a sure sign that Christmas is coming when the tree is erected at St Pancras. This year it is a floral one and aptly sponsored by a florist. I suppose we need at least one interruption to the year as otherwise, each month would seem the same. The outside world seems more keen to change than we do in our inward buildings.

The changing of the seasons keep us occupied as we see slow but sure changes. I always know it is the beginning of December as all the leaves will have fallen as the trees stand naked.

Christmas trees and decorations symbolise our need to cheer ourselves, to get excited about life perhaps amidst the darkness of the days.

Suddenly our calendars are full of Christmas dinners and get-togethers as we move towards the end of the year. We have one last go at the year before we ourselves stand naked as 2018 will begin. Have we done everything we had hoped to do? Have we let people know how much we appreciate them? We have a month left to do what we may have been putting off.

The tree in St Pancras is a sign that the end is coming, the year end.
